Welcome to Hockey Edmonton

Hockey Edmonton, a not-for-profit organization once known as Edmonton Minor Hockey Association (EMHA), is the governing body for minor ice hockey in Edmonton, Alberta. We are proud to represent nearly 10,000 children in our city, providing multiple streams of play for beginner to elite players, from the first time they lace up their skates as a U7 Timbit, to the day they graduate from minor hockey.

Founded in 1963 as the Edmonton Metropolitan Hockey Association, the organization currently assists Clubs, Districts, Associations and teams in the administration of ice hockey through various operating directives, standardized rules, development resources, and program support. Our proud history of excellence includes many notable alumni who graduated from our minor hockey programs to play pro, junior, and post-secondary hockey, including Mark Messier, Grant Fuhr, Shannon Szabados, and the current Captain of the Minnesota Wild, Jared Spurgeon, to name a few.

Hockey Edmonton has multiple streams of play that are inclusive of beginner to elite players. We truly believe that #WeAllPlayHere, and we welcome all athletes from the City of Champs to be a part of our special Hockey Edmonton community.

About Hockey Edmonton

Hockey Edmonton, a proud member of Hockey Alberta and Hockey Canada, is responsible for administering the game within our local community. Comprising over twenty grassroots organizations, Hockey Edmonton relies on its Clubs and Associations to assemble teams tailored to various age groups and skill levels, as well as oversee the selection and management of coaching staff, ensuring the development and safety of all participants. The office of Hockey Edmonton provides crucial support to these organizations, spearheading recruitment initiatives and advocating for the sport within the local community. At Hockey Edmonton, we are committed to fostering the growth and excellence of hockey at all levels for players aged U7 to U18.

Hockey Edmonton aims to foster, through the sport of hockey, the development of active healthy lifestyles.

To do this, Hockey Edmonton will provide through excellent integrated partnerships, strong leadership, and engaged member organizations, developmental programs, and competitive opportunities that encourage and inspire holistic development of all participants.

Hockey Edmonton stands for:

  • Respect: By promoting the positive self-esteem in others while taking pride and honouring those who make a significant commitment to our organization. We expect our players, parents, coaches, officials, spectators, league organizers, and facility operators to be respectful of each other at all times. We support the principles of sportsmanship, fair play, and the Fair Play Code.

  • Integrity & Perspective: Regardless of topic or issue, we will demonstrate leadership through ethical, open, and accountable actions and caring about the results we produce. In order to uphold Integrity and Perspective we must be accountable, approachable, consistent, and equitable.

  • Safe & Fun Environments: Promoting fun and fair play by providing the resources for the sufficient education and training of all our volunteers and staff. Innovation: Embracing an environment where learning and flexibility are the tools we use to wisely handle changing circumstances.

  • Teamwork: Through collaborative partnerships and community volunteerism we build mutually beneficial relationships with others.

  • Excellence: Our Framework for Success reflects player centered or focused decision making, excellent service delivery, and efficient and effective communication (getting the right message to the right people in the right way in a timely manner).
